always outnumbered, never outgunned
my castle is crumbling all around me.
i have a negative amount of money in my checking account, my car is out of gas, and for the eigth straight week in a row my cupboards remain bare.
i can live with all of that, but then people start talking and i forget why i should.
my younger self is itching to make a comeback.
let's just see who the winner is

Why are you unhappy? Because 99.9 per cent of everything you think, and of everything you do, is for yourself - and there isn't one.

there isn't one what?
SELF. THere isn't a self. NO me, no you, no him, no her, no us, no them, no they, no were. It's kinda like that monstrously large underground fungis as big as a state and that manifests itself above ground as a little bitty mushroom...seemingly individual but in reality it is merely a piece of the whole.
The self is a construct of mind, but of what constructs your mind? There is what you think, and there is WHAT IS.
The self is in what you think. I am this, I'm not that, I want this, I want that, I'm unhappy because I always think about I, I, I. Me, myself, and I...as it were.
Freedom means freedom from the self and that is WHAT IS. Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose, and what's to lose and whose to lose it if there is no self?
OUr minds, our spirits, our bodies are dull like butter knives. We scurry around looking for experience to use to sharpen the dull and if our experience fails to deliver we despair and if our experience delivers we cling to it with all of our violence, a vain quest for security where there isn't any, never was, never will, no how, not is.
Ever notice the sharpness of kids? Compare that to adults. Many adults need a drink to loosen up, kids were born that way. What happened? Dullness. Butter knives. Life ain't butter.
What happens if you don't try to fill in the emptiness? IF you cease to seeking, and give up hankering for experience of one kind or another? What if you release all ambition, all ideas of you as yourself and just live by breathing and doing what you do and not doing what you don't do? WHo are you then? Who is it that sees when it is that you are looking?
What we are looking for is what is looking.
-St. Francis of Assisi
Our local priest loves to quote St. Francis of Assisi too. Maybe you two would like to get together and exchange confessions.
freedom from expectations...
exactly Pollo, freedom from expectations. Succinct, I like it.
Expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed.
Unfortunately Iceman, I have nothing to confess because I didn't do it.
Ice, can you hear the echo inside that castle of your's?
